In 1915 Jouve landed in Salonika with the Army of the East, he was in charge of the photographic service of the armies, and attached to General Sarrail's headquarters. At the headquarters he met Prince Alexander of Serbia, who appreciated his designs and would become his protector and friend, and one of his most loyal clients, thus introducing him to the European elite. Jouve will stay two months in the peninsula of Athos, visiting the monasteries one by one.
He was appointed responsible for artists from the East, and organized exhibitions in Athens which had a very strong impact.
